Paint Can Stove!

Here is my next Emergency Preparedness DIY from Pinterest!
Here is the original image.
An here is a link to the Original Blog Post over at Prepared Not Scared!

Here is what you need (minus the 4x4 tile, and paint key haven't picked those up yet)!
Gallon pain can
Quart Paint can
Bottle of Alcohol
Roll of toilet paper
Paint key
4x4 Tile

You will also need a push-in can opener & Hammer!

Take your can opener and make opens around the top and bottom of the gallon paint can. First time I have used our can opener and apparently it is a crappy one! Dented my can up pretty bad, maybe paint cans just are more flimsy too.

Fold the toilet paper so you can get it inside the can then pour the alcohol over the toilet paper. Then pull out the cardboard center.

Cover quart can with lid and hammer down tight!

Now your ready to cook on it! If your just going to use it to cook things on a stick marshmallows, hot dogs etc. take the lid off the quart can and light the toilet paper. If your using a pan then put the gallon can upside down on the quart can with the tile underneath the quart can!

I will update with what we thought about it when we try it out! I would love to see pictures of you paint can stoves so send them to me!

Fire Starter Disk's

OK so I am a TOTAL Pinterest Junkie!! I have 63 Boards and 1 hidden board Yup Obsessed!! One of my Boards is an Emergency Preparedness Board, and I have tons of stuff pinned! One thing I had pinned was these Fire Starter disks! When I tried again to go to the Blog so I could give credit where I got the idea from it appears to be gone now, :( The blog was http://jjmatheshikes.blogspot.com/

Here is the picture from the original pin.

Here is my experience!

You will need:
Cotton Swab Rounds
Old Candles
A small pot
foil or wax paper

First you have to get some wax and melt it. I just used candle's I had lying around.

Then place the cotton swab rounds in the melted wax.

And then put on wax paper or foil until set!

Finished product! Not as good looking as the original pins but who cares what it looks like as long as it works right?!

Here it is on fire! It had a really good strong flame and it is raining in the picture!

Here is my Emergency Preparedness Board! What should I try next?!

The few don't represent the many

I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I have been my whole life. Every April and October the Leaders of our church hold what we call General Conference. It is a two day Conference of talks given by The Leaders in our Church. Next Saturday (Oct. 5th) there will be a General Priesthood session. This session is for the Men and Young Men 12 and older of our church to come together and receive instruction and edification pertaining to them.

There is a small group of Women who had requested tickets to the live Session in Salt Lake City, UT. The request was denied. In a letter to the group Spokeswoman Ruth Todd Said “It is the hope of the church that the priesthood session will strengthen the men and young men including fathers and sons, and give them the opportunity to gather and receive instruction related to priesthood duties and responsibilities, much the same way parallel meetings are held for sisters, such as the general Relief Society meeting."

This group plans to approach the Ushers next Saturday at the Priesthood Session and ask for Stand-by tickets.

For me I just don't understand this. I don't know why these Women would want the priesthood. That is not the way our Heavenly Father intended it or that is the way it would be. I hear them saying things like "equality". Equality when did anyone ever say Equality meant being the exact same? The definition of Equality is: the state of being equal, esp. in status, rights, and opportunities. We get to share in the blessings, rights, and opportunities of the priesthood as LDS Women and even those who aren't members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saint's sometimes get to share in these same things!

The Priesthood doesn't work very well without the Women in the church. We work along side our Husbands, Fathers, Son's, and Church Leaders when they are Exercising the Priesthood. We have some pretty big shoes to fill as Mothers (and even if you haven't yet had Children you are still a Mother to someone). We are in charge of the rearing (and the carrying for 9 months) of our children. It is our Job to keep them on the right path and help them to make good decisions, now our Husbands also share in this duty just as we as Women share in the Duty of the Priesthood. We don't have to be Holders of the Priesthood in order to exercise it or join in on the blessings from it.

I have also read the word "respect" being used. To me this is a huge Disrespect to our Leaders. If you Sustain them as Our Prophet and Leaders of the Church then you also agree that the Church is run on inspiration directly from our Father in Heaven. Decision's aren't made due to popularity, or "what the people want". God is the Same today, yesterday and tomorrow. He will never change.

I have read this group believes that Women receiving the Priesthood is just another expansion whose time has come, as it was expanded to the gentiles and in 1978 expanded to all worthy males. I have to disagree with this. I don't see the Priesthood ever being Held by Women, we have too many other important things we are n charge of without adding that to the pile.

I say lets get back the real Reason behind General Conference. To be edified and receive counsel on the things we face in this day and age.

Chore Charts!

I made some very simple chore charts for the kids. I used pictures instead of word because my Little's are still little!

I am hoping this will get my kiddo's more excited to do there chore's. I am going to buy some dollar store toys and have "mommies store" where they can earn money to be used at Mommy's store!

So here is one of the charts! Feel free to change the name and print one for your own use!

Cleaning, not fun but must be done!

I am sure there are people out there who like cleaning. I am NOT one of those people! I actually despise it very much! I have three little ones at home 5, 3, and 2 so as soon as I get a room cleaned and move to the next room, it seems like they have the previous room dirty again before I get room number 2 done! Its a never ending battle!

So I came up with a list to help me get things done! This list is very effective when used! When I am doing good and sticking to my list, the house stays pretty clean. We'll if you can overlook the kids toys and clothes they throw all over the place!

Here is a link to my list! Please feel free to print it out and use it in your house! Your house wont stay immaculate especially if you have young ones like me, but it will stay pretty clean, and you'll get done what needs to be done!
Cleaning List!

Enjoy!

What do you do to save time cleaning?

I am a Gun Owner!

There has been alot of debate going on about guns lately hasn't there? What with the Senate not passing the stronger background check bill. YAY! Another thing I didn't like about this bill was it would have taken the right to sale or give guns to someone else. If I wanted to give my brother one of my guns as a present I wouldn't have been able to without first going through a background check and him also. I know my brother, I know he is not a fellon and doesn't have any mental disability that would keep him from owning a gun. So if I decided I would like him to have my SKS I should be able to give it to him!

I actually have no problem with background checks for gun ownership I think it is a necessity. That way not just anyone can walk into a Gun Shop and buy a gun. I however do not like people infringing on my rights as a Proud American Women! I am sure I will have some readers that are anti-gun and that is your right, that is the great thing about this country. I think there are some misunderstandings about the second amendment though. Contrary to what the current administration would have you believe, the Second Amendment was not put into place to protect your right to hunt. When the second amendment was written and passed Hunting was an everyday thing. EVERYONE hunted, that is how they got there meat to live on. You couldn't just go down the street to the supermarket and have a whole wall of meat to choose from. So NO that is not what the Second Amendment is for. The Second Amendment protects us from a corrupt government. So if there every comes a time where we need to protect ourselves from a corrupt Government, the Second Amendment protects us and our RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS!

Here is another thought for you. So now that we know what the Second Amendment is, don't you think we should be able to own anything that is in possession by our government? I know some people who are not anti-gun, but have stated to me before that they think that there is no reason for us as US citizens to own an Assault Rifle. We'll here is what I think, if the Government has it we should be able to. If that time comes when we need to defend ourselves, I know I don't want to be going up against guys with AR's when I have a shotgun or a 9mm. We wouldn't stand a chance! So yes I think we should be able to own anything that government does, because it is our Second Amendment right to bear arms. So that we can protect ourselves from a corrupt government if we ever have to.

So tell me what are your thoughts on this subject? Did the clarification of the fact that the Second Amendment is to protect our freedoms and not our right to hunt make you think a little more?

If you agree with me, write congress! Write those that voted to pass the bill (that thankfully was not passed).

I just love this meme! It is from Girls with Guns!

Hobo Burgers! At home or Camping!

Hobo Burgers is one of our FAVORITE things to eat when we go camping! One night a couple years ago I was telling my hubby I wish we were camping so we could have Hobo Burgers! He said why not try them in the over and I did!!!

So I know your asking your self what is a Hobo Burger? I know it may not sound appetizing but it is! I am not sure where the name came from we have always called them that!

So tonight for Dinner we are having Hobo Burgers and Broccoli! (Its in the oven now!)

What do you need?:
Tin foil
Ground Beef
Potatoes (1 potato per burger)
Onion sliced (this time I used my freeze dried onions from Thrive Life!!!)
Shredded Cheese
Garlic Salt
Pepper

You start with some tinfoil. The in the middle put slices of half a potato, the some sliced onion (or in my case freeze dried onion). Sprinkle a little Garlic Salt and pepper.
Then add your hamburger patty on top! Sprinkle with more Garlic Salt and Pepper.
Top with cheese!
Add the rest of the sliced potatoes, and more onion. Sprinkle more garlic salt and pepper.
Bring the two short sides together at the top and roll it down tight!
Then roll both sides in tight!
At this point when your camping you just through it right into the fire!!! Let it cook for about 20 minutes but always open it and check to make sure the burger is cooked throughout!

But if your cooking at home cook it for 30-45 minutes on 475 degrees! I always line a pan with foil and line the burgers up on the pan like so. (in this picture you can see a BIG pack too that is my broccoli)

The Broccoli!!

Pretty simple just cut your broccoli up and lay it on two pieces of foil criss-crossed. Cut butter up into cubes and scatter around top. Then sprinkle with garlic salt! Cook it right along side your Hobo Burgers!!

This is so much fun to make! You can even get the kids to help you! Make an assembly line and each person takes a layer! Plus the great thing is everyone grabs a pack and gobbles it up!!!

So who is going to try Hobo Burgers on there next camping trip?! Or maybe for dinner this week?!!

My Tips to Running your Home!

This is our crazy Family this Christmas. It was work to get all three to sit still let alone look at the camera! Can you tell our then 4 year old is so happy to be taking Family pictures? Doesn't he know were making memories here?!

I keep seeing pins on pinterest that say things like "10 habits for a well ran home" or "10 tips to a smooth running household". So here are my 10 tips to running your household:

1. Sometimes kids are brats (ok alot), anyone who thinks other wise has no kids, is in denial, or is the one in 300,000,000 who has well behaved children all the time. If that yours KUDOS! So accept that your kids are going to act up, and just hope its not in the middle of the check-out lane after a 1-1/2 hour shopping trip in which you child pulled the apple off the bottom and made all the other apples fall to the floor.

2. Like tip 1 kids are brats, and sometimes as mom's we "lose our cool" or have a "breakdown" I say HAVE YOUR BREAK DOWN! Its okay to break down when things get too much for us, were human. So break down and move on. Trust me we've ALL been there!

3.Who cares if your house is a disaster. You know as well as I do that you'll get the living room cleaned, go to the kitchen to clean up then walk back to the living to find it a mess again. Its life, life with babies, toddlers, pre-teens, teenagers is messy.

4. As long as the kids clothes appear to be clean and don't smell nobody else is the wiser!

5. Some day's a peanut butter and jelly sandwich counts as a 3 course meal. Appetizer=bread, main course=peanut butter (um it has protein u know) and dessert=jelly.

6. If you can sleep in, sleep in!! Let the husband take a morning with the kids. They are his kids too you know.

7. If its 10 PM and your exhausted, (from reading 6 books to the 3 year old before she would go to bed, trying 8 different stuffed animals for the 2 year old before she would go to bed, fighting with the 5 year old before just deciding to let him sleep on the couch with cartoons again) but there's dishes in the sink and laundry to do. It can wait until tomorrow. GO TO BED!

8. When you go to the bathroom LOCK THE DOOR! Wash your face and put some lotion on pretend your at the spa! IGNORE the banging and constant whining saying “MOMMY” coming from the other side of the door.

9. When the kids have a melt down because there favorite show isn't on, or because they want something they cant have/your out of. Calmly explain to them that in this household we DO NOT negotiate with terrorists! Then walk away!

Thanks to my friend Amy who inspired this one!

10. If its been one of those days where your at your wits ends and cant take it anymore. As soon as your hubby walks in the door give him a kiss and say “I love you and I know you worked hard all day, but as of right now, these are your kids I will be back sometime tonight most likely after bed time. So feel free to bathe the kids, and put them to bed. Your welcome to stay up and wait for me but not necessary. K thanks bye”
